Hidden Gems – Designing a Travel Platform for Local Exploration and Group Planning

During my UX/UI design course, I had the opportunity to lead the interaction design for Hidden Gems, a travel platform created to connect users with local guides while simplifying the logistics of group trip planning. From concept to clickable prototype, this project challenged me to build an experience that was as intuitive as it was inspiring.

The Challenge

Travel planning—especially with groups—can often feel overwhelming. Our goal was to make it easier for users to discover authentic experiences, collaborate with friends, and book local tours, all within a streamlined digital environment.

As the interaction design lead, I focused on creating a user journey that removed friction and enhanced discovery, communication, and decision-making at every step.

My Role & Contributions

User Flow Development
I mapped out the full journey—from first landing on the site to completing a booking—designing seamless pathways for exploring destinations, inviting friends, and coordinating logistics.

Wireframing & Prototyping in Figma
Using Figma, I translated our flows into interactive wireframes. These low- to mid-fidelity prototypes emphasized clarity and ease of navigation, allowing us to test ideas quickly and iterate efficiently.

Usability Testing & Iteration
I conducted hands-on user testing sessions, identifying usability pain points and collecting feedback. This input directly informed design refinements, ensuring the final prototype met user needs with precision.

What I Learned

Leading the interaction design for Hidden Gems sharpened my skills in:

• Wireframing and rapid prototyping

• Collaborative iteration based on real user feedback

More than just a class project, this experience deepened my passion for designing products that solve real-world problems through clear, empathetic interfaces. I left the project energized and more confident in my ability to craft meaningful digital experiences.
